Another Pirate Ship Cake!
This one doesn't look quite so pirate-like, or at least didn't until I added the flags and sails. I don't like to make any two cakes alike, so there ya go! lol
I found the images for the sail and flag through a Google Image search. The back section of this ship is doweled, just to keep it from cracking and falling apart! I learned to do this the hard way... my little cake decorator's confession.
The cake board is heavy foam core. I don't use cardboard
cake boards as they're too soft and they flex. One of my favorite ways to make a cake look unique is to get creative with the board itself. This one was decorated to look like ocean waves. Now... I don't know how successful I was at it, but I took a scrap from one of those inexpensive vinyl table covers (the ones you can buy for $1) and crumpled it under clear contact paper. I sorta like the effect!

That board looks ginormous! How big is it???
Love the pirate ship!
The cake board was approximately 12x18", so not as big as it looks! :)
I absolutely LOVE your cake board. Having just covered a board the same size with marbled fondant to look like water...I'm considering the time I invested versus the time you invested...and kicking myself for not working smarter. :-) Great job!
I received my giant cupcake shaped cake pan from Confectioner's Wares the other day. I am super excited to get to use it next week. Thanks so much for hosting the giveaway!!
Also? I adore this pirate ship cake!!!

I am making the pirate ship for this weekend and the board looks amazing! Custom cake making brings up the creativity in a Cake Designer to its max :-)
Wow! That cake turned out great. I wonder if I'm up for the challenge.
